World Poker Tour downsizing live schedule?

February 12, 2008

Pokerati is reporting that the World Poker Tour live tournament schedule, set to be released next week, will feature significantly fewer tournaments than 2007’s schedule.

The tournament rumored to be cut are primarily Las Vegas stops.

Excerpt from Pokerati:

The World Poker Tour will be announcing its Season 7 schedule next week, and according to some recent banter around the high-stakes tournament tables, at least two (not-so?) major events will be, er, disappeared — the WPT Mandalay Bay Poker Championship and the WPT Mirage Poker Showdown.

Whole thing here.

The move makes sense in light of WPT’s increased focus on its online presence. Also no doubt playing a part is increasing competition from other poker leagues along with large one-off tournament series hosted independently by major poker rooms in Vegas.
